How acupuncture supports Rosacea
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition that causes flushing or long-term redness on your face.
There are four types of rosacea:
Erythematotelangiectatic rosacea which causes facial redness with visible blood vessels. This type can be triggered by UV exposure, heat etc so it usually comes and goes.
Papulopustular rosacea is characterized by the presence of small, red bumps and pus-filled pimples along with redness and flushing. Symptoms are similar to acne.
Phymatous rosacea is characterized by thickened skin, enlarged pores, and irregular surface nodules, often affecting the nose. Symptoms could make your nose appear bulbous.
Ocular rosacea is inflammation that causes redness, burning and itching of the eyes.
What causes rosacea?
The exact cause of rosacea is unknown, however, Studies suggest it may stem from issues with the immune or nervous system, skin mites, infections or protein malfunctioning.
How can acupuncture help?
In a case report, a woman diagnosed with rosacea sought acupuncture treatment after antifungal drugs and steroidal ointments had poor effects. The patient reported significant improvements after 3 acupuncture treatments had no relapse after 6 months (PMID: 30142810).
Likewise, other studies have demonstrated the efficacy of LED Light therapy in treating rosacea (PMCID: PMC6988247; PMCID: PMC5843358).
At Alchemy Acupuncture Studio we combine acupuncture with LED light therapy to treat the root cause as well as the symptoms of rosacea. If you are suffering from rosacea, we recommend making a booking for acupuncture plus LED light therapy or call us to discuss treatment options, we'd love to hear from you ✨
