With the popularity of LED light therapy devices booming, people should be aware of the possible
risks associated with using poor-quality devices. Using a poorly designed device can lead to a lack of
positive results while also potentially exposing the user to unnecessary health risks.
With the popularity of LED light therapy devices booming, people should be aware of the possible risks associated with using poor-quality devices. Using a poorly designed device can lead to a lack of positive results while also potentially exposing the user to unnecessary health risks.
Some risks include:
Skin irritation. A device that is not properly calibrated may cause redness, burning, or discomfort to the skin.
Eye damage. Proper eye protection must always be used. Even low-intensity light from a poorly designed device can harm the eyes.
Uneven treatment. Inconsistent light distribution across the treatment area due to poor design can lead to uneven results.
Heat generation. A poorly designed device can generate excessive heat which can cause possible skin damage.
It is so important to know whether you are using a highly reputable LED light therapy device, at home or professionally.
Important factors to consider are:
Wavelength accuracy. Ensure the device emits light at the correct wavelength for your desired treatment (e.g 633NM for red light).
Certification. Ensure the device has the proper certification (such as CE certification, TGA approval and/or FDA approval).
Efficacy - Ensure the device is ‘medical grade’ which refers to a standard of quality and purity for products intended for medical use, ensuring safety and efficacy.
Brand reputation. Use reputable brands with a proven track record in LED light therapy technology.
At Alchemy Acupuncture Studio we use the Medically CE certified, TGA certified and FDA approved Dermalux LED Light Therapy Device. This means the device meets the necessary safety, performance, and quality standards required to be sold in Europe, America and Australia. The Dermalux has clinically proven wavelengths backed by science to deliver results. It has also been approved to treat conditions like psoriasis, acne, wound healing, and pain.
Dermalux is built in the UK and is of superior quality, with wavelengths calibrated to only a +/- 2 nm variance. It is the only device delivering all three clinically proven wavelengths simultaneously (Blue, Red, and Near Infrared) as well as dual-wave and single-wave options. It is safe for all skin types, including sensitive skin conditions, as it does not generate heat or UV wavelengths.
We hope you now have a better understanding of the dangers of using poor-quality LED light therapy, whether at home or in a professional setting 🙂
